My condolences to the Murphy family. Matt was a big part of my childhood growing up, we were good friends but lost touch after high school. I have many great memories of Matt, we experienced many things together growing and will always remember them.

I'm very saddened to hear my childhood best friend has passed away . Matt and I had an extremely awesome childhood living on Shoreline Dr. and the Murphy family on Trinidad . We did some crazy things starting out at a very young age. Matt with a room full of BMX trophy's to driving his bikes off the pier with life jackets attached so they didn't sink to travelling all over St.Catharines mostly up to no good Lol . I moved away in 1986 to Stratford where we tried our best to keep in touch by several visits right after the move to fading for a few years . I was able to meet with him again on my way through Banff a few years ago to have a couple of beers and him taking my family for a tour to the best sights in the area . We once again met at Bissel's where the soccer team I was coaching was staying for the Tiamo Cup . He and his sweet mother camped right across from us for the weekend . Matt's mother was like my second mom when I lived in St.Catharines .I feel for you Mrs.Murphy and hope after these covid restrictions are over , I can come visit you and give you a big hug . I will never forget the great times we all had together .

I am so heartbroken to hear this news. I grew up with the Murphy family. When my mom died when I was 8 they took me and my siblings into their home and treated us like one of their own. Such great memories were made. Mathew was the kid that was always joking, laughing and having a great time. We really liked hanging out there. I lost touch with the family over the years but the memories made will never be forgotten. I hope the family finds peace knowing that Matt is no longer suffering. My condolences to all the people who knew and loved him.

I just received word. I am at a loss, 50, oh so young.
But for those of us that spent our formative years with Matt, we could make the argument that he lived a full life, by the time he reached 21.
Matt and I (and others) spent countless hours just hanging out, swimming at his parent's house, and socializing with our circle of friends in his parent's basement, for what seem years on end.
He was always willing to lend a hand, even if it was a dirty job! I recall needing a hand to dig a 50-foot trench line that progressive became deeper and deeper, reaching as deep as 4-feet, and Matt caught word of the project and just showed up to help. It tooks us 5-hours of non-stop shoving in the summer sun, and he didn't complain.
That was one of many such times when he lent a helping hand...
Years passed, we fell out of touch, then in 2015, we ran into each other at the St Catharines Home Depot, and he was very talkative and as a result, we spent almost an hour standing in an aisle getting caught up.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to see him and get caught up on the almost 20-years that had passed between us.
My condolences go out to his loved ones.
