"Aunt" Irma was a special one of a kind person. She had been through so much in her lifetime yet kept a great optimistic outlook on life - she was strong and unique! She would say: Don't sit around and feel sorry for yourself - You got flour, eggs and sugar: BAKE A CAKE!!! She lived simply, was frugile and wise with money and had many friends. She once told a story of when she was a young girl during the war and the Russians were coming to invade the village where she and her family lived. She had the idea for them to escape by taking whatever they could carry, leaving their home and jumping on a train car carrying livestock and bails of hay in the middle of the night! And that is what they did, on her advice - just like in a movie! What a brave and clever lady! She was a longtime family friend (married the schoolfriend of my mom / knew my grandparents and knew me - Renate -my whole life) MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AUNT IRMA - You will be missed and often thought of and thanks for all you did!
We will so miss the picnics and get togethers with you in St. Catharines! And I will especially miss the lengthy phonecalls we enjoyed when I would call You every few days!
XOX LOVE ALWAYS,
Renate, Henry, Pauline and Peter Michalak
