Obituary of Josef Franz Vogt

 

VOGT, Josef Franz

 

Joe passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 8, 2022, in his 92nd year.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Inge, and his children, Tom (Kathy), Angela (Dave Irvine), and Harold (the late Linda).  He is also survived by a sister, Lisebeth, and a sister-in-law, Heidi, both of Germany.

 

Joe was born in a small village just outside of Breslau, Germany.  Wartime and tragedy separated his family, and at age 14, he found himself on his own.  He made his way across the country, working odd jobs to survive, and eventually settled in Stuttgart, where he learned his trade as a tool and die maker.  This is also where he met and married Inge.  In 1957, they moved to Canada, and settled in the St. Catharines area.  He eventually found work in his trade at General Motors, at the former Ontario Street plant, where he was employed for over 30 years as a respected toolmaker.

 

After his retirement, his skills as a machinist turned into a passion for woodworking.  In his fully-equipped basement workshop, he produced hundreds of projects, from small to elaborate, each to his precise degree.

 

Joe and Inge loved to travel, enjoying vacations all over the world throughout the years.  They also cherished the peaceful surroundings of their backyard and gardens, watching the bird and animal visitors.

 

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
