June 7, 1920 - September 24, 2021

Clara passed away quietly in her sleep, at home, on September 24, 2021 with her family at her side. She was the wife of R. Frank J. Madsen (2000), beloved Mother of Bonnie Crole (Gary), loved Grandmother of Heather McPeake (Chris) and much loved Great Grandmother of Arran McPeake, all of Fonthill, Ont.

Mother was predeceased by her five sisters and brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law. She was the Aunt of three nephews and two nieces.

Clara enjoyed working from the time she was in her late teens, but her favourite job was her last one as the ward secretary on the third floor at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines, and as of two weeks ago, she was still wanting to go to work. She was a wonderful volunteer for the Hotel Dieu Auxiliary, Hotel Dieu Shaver Auxiliary and the Cathedral of St. Catharine CWL for over fifty years.

If you or your relatives were ever in the hospital on special holidays like Christmas, Easter, Canada Day or Thanksgiving and received a holiday favour on your food tray such as a Christmas tree pinecone, decorated Easter egg, Canadian flag, or turkey with feathers on it, it was Clara that made them for over fifty years. She did it for the joy of making someone’s day happier. She also enjoyed working at the CWL Bazaars.

I would like to thank anyone who showed an act of kindness to my mother, especially neighbours Kevin and Laurie Rorke, the whole Bonomi family for all the family parties you invited her to. She really enjoyed them. A special thank you to Rosemary Bonomi Zimmermann for taking my mother to church every week since the year 2000 when my dad passed, and all the social places you took her to. This was very much appreciated by her and by me. Cremation has taken place. A private family service at St. Alexander church in Fonthill with Fr. Mitchell Kasza has taken place with interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. These arrangements were made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to thank all the wonderful staff at George Darte Funeral Home for your help and arrangements. May you have a joyful eternity Mother. Love always, Bonnie, Gary, Heather, Chris, Arran.
