Obituary of Virginia Ann Nelson-Turner
Nelson-Turner, Virginia Ann “Ginnie”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Virginia on December 21st, 2020 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 81. Beloved mother of Joseph (Therese) Nelson-Turner, adoring Grandmother to Josiah, Adeline, and Melina. Predeceased by her parents Harold and Elizabeth Nelson-Turner, as well as her siblings John (‘Jack’), Ysobel (‘Tinker’) and Peggy. She will be greatly missed by her nieces Michaela, Juliet, Jennifer, Caroline, and Josephine, as well as many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends all over the world.
Before her retirement, Virginia worked several years for the Premier of Ontario’s Cabinet Office as Project Director of Information Technology Systems, Technology Consultant, as well as other positions as Project Director. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards at the Dunlop Seniors Centre, and watching the stock market. She also wrote many poems and documented her family tree. She was incredibly kind, always looking to help the less fortunate and helping animals. One of her favourite sayings was “What is money good for if you can’t help others.”, and she truly reflected this as she helped build a village in India and gave towards many charities, and was involved in Haven of the Heart Charity.
In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held when it is safe to gather again. If desired, donations can be made in Virginia's memory to Haven of the Heart Charitible Trust. Arrangements entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines.
